Abstract
790,852. Releasable fastenings, MILLETT, C. B. Dec. 5, 1955 [Dec. 3, 1954], No. 35094/54. Class 44. A quickly attachable and releasable fastening means for securing a flexible cover over a vehicle or other object comprises an elastically extensible longitudinal member 1, the ends of which are provided with anchoring means and a plurality of elastically extensible transverse members 2, 3 which are displaceable along and medially guidable by the longitudinal member and which are also provided with anchoring means at or towards their free ends. As shown each transverse member 2, 3 is knotted to a ring 4 and the longitudinal member 1 passes through the rings so that the transverse members are slidably adjustable along the member 1. Each of the members 2, 3 has a hook 6 at each end and the longitudinal member 1 branches at each end. This branching is accomplished by providing a loop at each end of the member 1 and passing a piece of elastically extensible material 5 through the loop. Each end of the piece 5 ends in a hook 6. The members 1 to 3 and the pieces 5 are made of a plurality of elastic threads and covered by a braided textile cover. In a modification the branching of the member 1 is accomplished by connecting separate pieces to the member 1 so that the original ends each form branches and the separate pieces the other branches. Instead of using textile covered elastic, the members can be made extensible by providing an elastic end portion or insert.
