Abstract

374,600. Pillion seats. HAWLEY, E., 9, Middlewood Estate, Oughtibridge, near Sheffield. May 14, 1931, No. 14225. [Class 136 (i).] A pillion seat is secured to a mudguard 23 by means of clips each of which comprises a slotted shank 21 bolted to the base 12 of the seat, an arm 21 at right-angles to the shank 21, a clamping plate 26 at or near the free end of the arm 24, and a screw 25 adapted to clamp the plate 26 against the edge of the mudguard. The plate 26 is flanged at each end, the upper flange 23 engaging the beaded edge of the mudguard, while the lower flange 27 may co-operate with a flange 29 on the end of the arm 24. The clamping plate may alternatively be made integral with the arm 24, forming a flexible hook at the end thereof. The seat may be upholstered, or may comprise an endless inflatable tube 18 adapted to be inserted through an opening in a cover 14. The pneumatic cushion 18 may be of the kind described in Specification 358,661, [Group XXI], so.that it may be removed from the cover and used as a swimming belt or life-buoy.
