Description

Oct. 2, 1923. 1,469,682 I T. J. NORTH TROUSERS SUPPORTER Filed Oct. 25, 1922 -THOMAS ,J. NOPTH .1 waist-of the wearer.
Patented Oct. 2 1923; i
' THOMAS J1; Noemi, or LouIsvItIin emus;
To. all whom ithtejconcem:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. NORTH,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of Louisville, in thecounty of J elfersonand 5 State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Trousers bupportersJof which theflfollowing is a full, clear, and exact description. 7
My invention relates to means for supporting trousers, and has for its. object to provide such a device which may be attached to the inner side of underwear, trousers and the like adjacent the top thereof and which will draw the trousers tightly 'around the Another object of the invention is the provision of such a device which may be attached to the usual suspender; buttons found on the inner side of trousers, or which may be attached to any other part of thegtrousers desired. y
I A further object of the inventionis the provision of a buckle which maybe used in conjunction with the trousers support and Other objects and advantages of the. in-
vention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with r the accompanying drawing, in which: v Figure 1 is a plan viewofthe device...
Figure 2 is a" perspective view of ,the buckle detached from the supporter.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspectiveview of the elastic member detached from the buckle. I
Figure gis a perspective view of' upper portion of a pair of trousers with my complete device attached thereto, and
- Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan viewof a pair of. trousers with the deviceattached to the suspender buttons. a
Referring to the drawing'more .in detail,
which are secure'd the hooks 2. The band 1 is doubled over one of the hooks 2 and'is provided with the usual clip 3 for adjusb ing the length ofthe band. The elastic band 1 is intended'tobe at- :tached t0. the interior of the trousers, either front. rear or side, forthe purpose of d-raw- 7 ing the trousers snugly around the waist of.
allel with the frame member' l.
" end of theframe.
which isso constructed as to eliminate any prongs ln urmg the personin place by engagement of the band 1 with the numeral 1 designates an elastic band to j and practicallyimpossible't'o become acci-- dentally detached.
-' 'rnousuns' surrosrun." Application filed ocuiberl'zs, 1,922. seriai'uo.'59e,7e7. I-.
'9 attached to the trousers gatspaeedintervals.
The buckle is illustrated mostc lea-rly' in Figure 2 andcomprises a frame 1, to Which' ;is pivoted the spaced, parallel prongs 5. These prongs 5 are passed into thematerial of the trousers, and, in order that the same may be held against injury to the person, I have provided the keeper 6,. which is pivoted at 7 to the frame 4. The keeper 6 may be provided with the fingers 8 for engaging the prongs 5,.if desired. I p f Extending beyond the pivot 7 of thekeeper 6 is a pair of arms 9. "These arms 9 are Y engaged by the band 1 when the latter is drawn'taut and thereby holds the keeper against the prongs 5 and substantially par In attaching the band 'l 'to the buckles 4, the hooks of the band are first passed over the bar lO and then engaged over the Also pivoted to the ba-nd 1 are the button clasps '11. Where desirable,these clasps 11 may be attached'to the suspender' buttons, v as indicated in Figure 5, and when so used the buckles 5 may be detached from the l books 2.
In operation the prongs 5 of'eachof the buckles are passedthroughthe material of the trousers at suitable pointsjThe prongs- 5 and frame. 41 are then moved on their pivot/until substantially parallel; the keeper 6 is then swung on its pivot Tand'held the arms 9. If found desirable, the buckles 4, may remain attached to the trousers and" the band may be detached at the proper time I by merelydisengaging the hooks 2 from the buckles Under some circumstances it may f be preferredto usethe clasps 11 instead off- 5 I the buckles 4E, and it is then only necessaryto disengage the. hooks from thebuckles 'and ,.then engage the .c'laspsjll overthe suspenderl buttons. i 1 From the, fore oing description itywill be seerrthatl have provided a very simple and inexpensive device for' supp'orting" trousers and also onewhich is reliable in operation 'Inaccordance' with the patent statutes,
'l." have described what I now believe to: be
the'best embodiment ofthe invention, but
I dojno't wish to be understood therebyas i limiting myself orthe'scop'e of theinvention as ma-ny'cha-nges and modifications.
may be made Without departing from the spirit or" the invention; all such I aim to inelude in the scope of the appended claims;
What I claim as new andv desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A buckle, including a frame member, a pair of prongs pivoted to one end of said frame member, a keeper pivoted to the opposite end of the frame member, and means Vearried by said keeper and adapted to be en" gaged by a belt or the like for holding the keeper in contaetwith the prongs;
2. A buckle, includingja framemember,"
the ikeeper 'in-eontaet with the prongs.
