Abstract

858,838. Luggage racks for vehicles. MURRAY, G. K. Oct. 28, 1959 [Oct. 30, 1958], No. 34824/58. Class 103(2). A collapsible vehicle roof luggage rack comprises a framework having four channelshaped corner brackets 6, Figs. 1 and 2 in the arms 13, 14 of which are pivoted at 9, 10 longitudinal struts 7 and transverse struts 8 respectively. Each longitudinal side of the rack has two struts 7 one of which is welded to a channel member 15 having lugs 16 to which the downturned end 17 of the other strut 7 is pivoted at 11. Each transverse end member of the rack comprises two struts 8 pivoted at 12, by means of a similar channel member to the member 15. Intermediate struts 18 which may be curved or straight are securable by bolt and nut means 20, 19 to the struts 7. The rack is retained in its erected state by spring clips as described with reference to Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) and is secured to a car roof by hook and turnbuckle means between the struts 7 and the roof gutters, as described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown).
