Abstract
636,723. Vehicle luggage carriers. S. & T. ACCESSORIES, Ltd., and TAIT, C. April 5, 1948, No. 9490. [Class 103 (ii)] A device for attaching a luggage or like carrier to the roof of a vehicle comprises two parts capable of relative movement in a straight line, one part being pivoted to the carrier about a substantially horizontal axis, and the other part being hooked to engage the vehicle. The attachment comprises two parts 20 and 22 of which the part 20 consists of a sleeve 24, free to rotate on the carrier lower side rail 4, and a stub 26 rigid with the sleeve and threaded internally. Movement of the part 20 along the rail 4 is limited by vertical Struts 28 which connect the carrier side rails 2 and 4. The part 22 consists of a sleeve 30 which slides telescopically over the stub 26 and an integral curved arm 32 hooked at its tip 34 to engage a roof drip channel. A screw 38 enters the threaded bore of the stub 26 and draws the parts 20 and 22 together. In a modification, the struts 28 may be replaced by a single vertical threaded rod, Fig. 3 (not shown), sliding thereon, on which the sleeve 24 is pivoted, the horizontal rod being adjusted for height by a nut threaded on the vertical rod.
