Abstract
684,702. Two-part couplings. ALLDAY & SON (1922), Ltd., H., and BAIN, R. April 24, 1951 [May 4, 1950], No. 11010/50. Class 38 (i). The current-carrying pin openings d, e of a socket cover a are shielded by a quadrantalsection bar h pivoted on a ledge i within a semicircular recess p in a bridge member o. The bar h is controlled by springs m on struts j which are pivoted in the bar extremities and slidable in abutments n. A pair of interconnected catch arms q fulcrumed on the bridge o at r, are urged by a spring u into the Fig. 4 position where they prevent movement of the bar h. The catch extends slightly into the earth pin opening c whereby on insertion of the earth-pin f the arms q are moved clear of the bar h which is then rocked in the ledge i by the current pins g. The bar h makes a moisture and dirt-proof obstruction with the openings e, d, and for this purpose, also, the earthing socket contact may be gapped and extend into the opening c.
