Abstract

683,886. Reservoir pens. WAGNER, E. V. June 29, 1950. [May 23, 1949; July 18, 1949 ; Sept. 16, 1949] Nos. 13722/49, 18836/49 and 23905/49. Class 146 (iii). In a ball-point pen the ink is prevented from leaking at the open end of the reservoir tube d by the provision of a plug having at least one waist h and two enlarged cylindrical portions h<SP>1</SP>, h<SP>2</SP> which are a sliding fit in the tube, and by inserting a liquid, such as castor oil, to seal the annular gap between the portion h2 and the tube. When a plug having several waists and enlarged portions is provided, the peripheries of all the latter portions, except that in contact with the ink, are coated with oil &c. The plug is buoyant in the ink, and can be recessed at the ink-contacting end. The reservoir tube d is preferably closed at the back and, an air hole i provided therein. The writing tip e is a tight fit in the front end of the tube d, and is a frictional fit in the end of the barrel a, the tube and tip being removable as a unit from the barrel. Dimensions of suitable reservoir. tubes and plugs are given. According to the second Provisional Specification, the plug may comprise two cylindrical pieces of polyethylene interconnected by a thin wire stem.
