Abstract
A washing preparation in the form of a dry powder not containing oxygen-evolving substances consists of lathering agents, salts of alkaline reaction, and minor quantities, preferably 2 to 10 per cent, of magnesium silicates which are colloidally soluble in water. Magnesium metasilicate is preferably used and minor quantities such as 1 to 5 per cent of a salt of phosphoric acid more anhydrous than orthophosphoric acid may be present; also, if desired, neutral salts. The magnesium silicate may be precipitated as a gel in the composition prior to its conversion to a dry powder, or it may be separately formed by boiling silicic acid with magnesium chloride solution in the presence of alkaline substances and added to the composition. In examples: (1) sodium silicate solution, caustic soda lye, and magnesium chloride solutions are well stirred and then calcined soda and soap added. On cooling the mixture is powdered by an edge runner. (2) Calcined soda, sodium chloride, soap and sodium cellulose glycollate are mixed and separately prepared magnesium metasilicate added. The composition is cooled and pulverized. (3) A mixture of precipitated magnesium silicate and sodium salt of cellulose glycollic acid is sprinkled into water and a mixture of anhydrous soda, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium chloride, and soap added. The mixture is powdered after cooling. (4) An alkyl sulphonate glue, sodium chloride and sodium salt of cellulose glycollic acid are stirred into water and sodium silicate solution, caustic soda lye and magnesium chloride solution added. Finally calcined soda is incorporated and the composition pulverized after solidification. (5) A washing preparation for coarse fabrics is obtained by stirring soda, sodium chloride, sodium salt of cellulose glycollic acid and sodium alkyl naphthalene sulphonate into water and powdering the material after cooling. Precipitated magnesium silicate is finally added. (6) A sulphonate fatty alcohol powder, calcined soda, sodium chloride, and sodium cellulose glycollate are added to water at 100 DEG C. and the material atomized into cold air. Magnesium metasilicate powder is atomized at the same time into the mixture, producing a dry powder suitable for white fabrics. Specification 683,527 is referred to.
