Abstract

Sodium fluoride is produced by adding 1 mol. solid sodium silicofluoride, or a slurry thereof, to hot, e.g. boiling, concentrated solution containing more than 4 mols. sodium hydroxide, cooling and separating solid sodium fluoride. The liquor obtained by washing the product is used for dissolving a further quantity of sodium hydroxide. The sodium silicate mother liquor containing 1-2 per cent sodium fluoride may be concentrated.
