Abstract
Washing-agents in powdered form and containing as detergent a liquid or non-solid organic substitute for soap, are made by mixing the detergent with the melt of a water-soluble inorganic salt containing water of crystallization, at a temperature above its transformation point, and then the mixture is cooled with stirring, or is sprayed. Watersoluble salts of sulphuric, perboric, pyrophosphoric or metaphosphoric acid containing water of crystallization, are heated above the transformation point whereupon the anhydrous salt is precipitated. Before addition of the organic detergent, a part of the aqueous layer may be withdrawn. Before cooling the mixture, bleaching agents or salts such as sodium chloride, sulphate, carbonate, bicarbonate, perborate, pyrophosphate or meta-phosphate may be added. As liquids organic detergents there may be used, condensation products of ethylene oxide with octadecyl alcohol, or isooctyl phenol. Example, crystalline sodium sulphate is heated to 32 DEG C. and then the condensation product of 1 molecular proportion of isooctyl phenol and 12 of ethylene oxide is added to form an intimate mixture which is cooled with vigorous stirring, or is sprayed. The resulting powder may be formed into flakes, bars, or cakes. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of granular or powdered washing-agents prepared from (1) sodium sulphate and the condensation product of oleic acid and methyl taurine, (2) sodium sulphate and the sulphonated condensation product of ethylene oxide with a mixture of hexylene phenol and heptylene phenol, there being added also a mixture of sodium pyrophosphate, meta-phosphate and perborate, (3) sodium pyrophosphate and turkey-red oil.ALSO:Detergents or wetting-agents consisting of a liquid or non-solid organic substitute for soap, is mixed with the melt of a water-soluble inorganic acid containing water of crystallization, at a temperature above the transition point and then the mixture is cooled with stirring, or is sprayed. Crystalline sodium sulphate, perborate, pyrophosphate or metaphosphate is heated above the transition point and after withdrawing some of the aqueous layer if desired, the condensation product of ethylene oxide with octadecyl alcohol or isoactyl phenol is added. The mixture is then stirred vigorously and cooled, or is sprayed to form a powder, which may be formed into flakes, bars or cakes. Samples are furnished under Sect. 2 (5), of granular or powdered products prepared from (1) sodium sulphate and the condensation product of oleic acid with methyl taurine, (2) sodium sulphate and the sulphonated condensation product of ethylene oxide with a mixture of hexylene phenol and heptylene phenol, (3) sodium pyrophosphate and turkey-red oil.
