Abstract

680,022. Girders. BRAITHWAITE & CO., ENGINEERS., Ltd., and WILSON, G. Jan. 15, 1951 [Jan. 18, 1950], No. 1303/50. Class 20(ii) [Also in Group XXII] A structural beam or like element is built up from spaced components interconnected through projections on at least one of them which is curved in the plane of the said projections so that the latter lie along either the concave or the convex side of the component. The curved components are made by dividing straight strip plate or the web of a straight beam longitudinally along a sinuous cut and then bending the parts obtained to the required curvature. When making an element from two curved .components, Fig. 3, the component 2a is formed from a beam shorter than that from which the component 1a is made, the cuts dividing the beams being of pitches in the same proportions as the lengths of the beams. In a modification, Fig. 4, the projections are of triangular form, joined by welds 4, or the tips of the teeth may be overlapped and joined.
