601,972. Girders. GREAT LAKES STEEL CORPORATION. Jan. 31, 1945, No. 2452. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1943. [Class 20(ii)] Steel beams having nailing grooves are constructed by rolling a strip of steel to form a hollow web 10 for receiving nails which is curved so that the nails are positively locked in position, and flanges 14, 15 which are connected by a cover strip 16 folded over the edges 17 of the flanges. A depression 20 in the strip 16 guides the nails which are driven through the strip. In a modification, the beam is formed of one strip of steel, bent on itself to form the flanges, the edges of the strip being bent at right angles to form the hollow web which is completed by bending one edge of the strip over the other. Depressions and slots guide the nails into the nailing slot.
