Abstract

668,485. Making beams. ROLLINSON, E. W. (National Steel Corporation). Jan. 10, 1950, No. 674/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group X] Angular bending; altering physical or molecular structure.-A metal nail-receiving beam comprises flange connecting members 17, 18 having depressions 19, 20 provided with a thin imperforate portion readily penetratable by a driven nail. A sheet is bent in a succession of roll passes, Figs. 5-9, not shown, to form a beam provided with continuous thinned V-shaped depressions 19, 20 which are coldworked to provide increased tensile strength and which facilitate the driving of nails between the webs 10, 11. The sheet may be jointed between the member 17 and a flange member 13 or the sheet may terminate in the web member 11, Fig. 4, not shown. During rolling the webs may be provided with single or with double corrugations 21, 22, 23, 24. In a modification a T-beam with a single corrugation in the web is rolled from a single sheet.
