Abstract
554,505. Staples; hammers. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Jan. 3, 1942, No. 102. [Class 89 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A staple, particularly for fastening canvas to plaster boards such as are used in building construction, comprises a thin oval head 12 with legs 14 depending from the ends of the major axis. The legs are substantially rectangular in section with the shorter sides parallel to the major axis. The legs terminate in edges 15 formed by inclined cuts 17, on the inside of one leg and the outside of the other so that acute angles are formed yielding points 16. The legs initially are slightly convergent and the head is thin enough to permit bending at the junctions with the legs as the staple is driven so that the points substantially meet in the plaster 24, Fig 4. The staples are adapted for driving by means of a magnetic hammer that holds the head of the staple by its horseshoe end 29, 31.
