679,127. Induction heating. BARFIELD, R. H.. and WILD-BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd. July 14, 1950 [July 26. 1949], No. 19671/49. Class 39(iii) A low frequency induction furnace includes a container having, at the frequency used, a ratio of reactance to resistance which lies between 1 and #3. The container may be of copper or, alternatively, of ferro-magnetic material with an outer sheath of non-magnetic material such as copper, brass, nickel &c. Alternatively the sheath may be of magnetic material, and it may cover the container wall completely or in separate bands, or it may be spaced from the container by an insulating air layer. In the embodiment, a container 1 is surrounded by a sheath 3 which is surrounded by an induction coil 12 spaced from the sheath by thermal insulation 4.
