Abstract

679,349. Magnetic compositions. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 25, 1951 [May 10, 1950], No. 9649/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (ii). A mixed crystal ferrite suitable for magnetic cores having a low dielectric constant, a high initial permeability and a high resistivity is composed of 47-49 mol. per cent iron oxide, 1-8 mol per cent copper oxide, 28-38 mol. per cent zinc oxide, with balance of nickel oxide. Known ferrites of similar composition but with the whole of the copper oxide replaced by nickel oxide show similar properties, if a higher sintering and therefore less economic temperature is used, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). From curves showing variation of resistivity, and B for various values of H, with different percentages of copper oxide, it can be seen how much copper oxide is needed in any case. Sintering at 1200 C. in air is satisfactory.
