Abstract

678,637. Furnace bricks. CLEVELAND MAGNESITE & REFRACTORY CO., Ltd. March 19, 1951 [April 26, 1950], No. 10221/50. Class 51 (ii). Reinforced basic bricks used for lining the walls and roofs of open hearth furnaces are formed with a reinforcing jacket 11, Fig. 1, comprising a strip of sheet metal longer than the perimeter of the brick, the excess material being bent along a junction line 12 in the centre of one face 13 to form partitions 14 extending backwards a substantial distance towards the far corners 15, the basic material being compressed in the jacket during fabrication of the bricks. Fig. 5 shows a cylindrical brick having its jacket 30 bent at 31 to form a diametral partition 32 and Fig. 8 a rectangular brick having a partition 38 slit along the top, the sections 37 so formed being bent alternately in opposite directions to increase the keying effect with the surrounding basic material 39. Other modifications, Figs. 2-4 and 6-7 (not shown), have bricks of square, hexagonal, triangular or circular cross-section with either one or two partitions. Specification 638,767 is referred to.
