Abstract

<PICT:0678335/IV (a)/1> The process of the parent Specification for the production of viscose rayon filaments is modified for spinning temperatures above 20 DEG C. in that the g -value (degree of xanthogenation) of the viscose and the temperature of spinning are selected and related to correspond to a point on one of the curves shown in the drawing or on a curve parallel thereto, each of the curves at the point indicated by a temperature of 20 DEG C. giving a relationship of g -value to acid concentration which satisfies the formula set forth in the parent Specification, i.e. percentage concentration by weight of sulphuric acid in the coagulating bath is equal to 1.26g + 8\sB3. In the drawing, curves are drawn to show the g -value at temperatures between 20 DEG and 40 DEG C. for use with sulphuric acid of 58, 66, and 71 per cent strength. When using sulphuric acid of 66 per cent strength in the coagulating bath, the g -value of the viscose is 46, 48, 51 and 54, for temperatures of 20 DEG , 23 DEG , 30 and 40 DEG C., respectively.
