Abstract

In the manufacture of filamentary products by extruding viscose into a coagulating bath containing sulphuric acid and zinc sulphate, products of improved physical properties are obtained by adding to the viscose more than 0.02 per cent of an alkylene oxide-fatty acid condensation product. A suitable condensation product is obtained from ethylene oxide and sperm oil. Unripened viscose can be used and, in addition to sulphuric acid and zinc sulphate, the coagulating bath may contain sodium sulphate, ammonium sulphate, magnesium sulphate and glucose.
