Abstract

Artificial filaments are obtained from viscose by a process wherein (1) quinoline in a proportion of 0.05-0.25 per cent is added to the viscose; (2) the ratio of the percentages by weight of cellulose and alkali in the viscose is at least 1.3; (3) the spinning bath contains at least 3 per cent of zinc sulphate and sulphuric acid in a percentage which is 1.05-1.15 times that of the alkali in the viscose; and (4) a surface-active substance is added either to the viscose or to the spinning bath. The surface-active substance may be anionic, cationic or non-ionic and may be, for example, lauryl triethyl ammonium chloride, polyethylene oxide of mol. weight about 6000 or a condensation product of ethylene oxide with a primary aliphatic amine of 8-30 carbon atoms. An example is given. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 709,986.
