Abstract

Artificial filaments, threads and fibres having substantially no skin and core effect are obtained by extruding viscose into a coagulating bath containing sulphuric acid and zinc sulphate, the spinning being effected in the presence of more than 0.25 millimol. and less than 12 millimols. per 100 grams of viscose of fluorescein or a salt thereof, e.g. its sodium salt. The fluorescein may be in the viscose, in the coagulating bath or in both. The filaments have a reduced water-imbibition and gel swelling factor and the process enables unripened viscose to be spun.
