Abstract

1,060,311. Spinning viscose. COURTAULDS Ltd. Dec. 10, 1963, No. 46652/62. Heading B5B. Crimped viscose rayon filaments are made by extruding a viscose containing, by weight, 5-10% of cellulose, 5-10% of caustic soda, more than 0À05% of a modifier and a zinc compound in the proportion of 0À01-0À8% of zinc based on the weight of the viscose, at a salt figure of 3-14 into a coagulating and regenerating bath containing 5-14% of sulphuric acid, 0À5-4% of ZnSO 4 and more than 12% of Na 2 SO 4 to form incompletely regenerated filaments, stretching the filaments by at least 50%, cutting the stretched filaments into staple fibres, and crimping the fibres by relaxing them in a solution containing 1-5% of caustic soda, before completing the regeneration of the cellulose in the fibres. The zinc compound may be an alkali metal zineate, e.g. sodium zincate. The modifier may be polyethylene glycol of mol. wt. 600-6000.
