Abstract

677,944. Microscopes. LEITZ GES., E. June 7, 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949], No. 14217/50. Class 97 (i). Coarse and fine adjustment of the stage or tube of a microscope is effected by supporting the stage on a body sliding in guides fixed to the frame of the microscope, and moved for coarse adjustment by means connected to a second body also sliding in guides fixed to the frame and moved for fine adjustment. Transverse stress due to the stage are, by this means, not transmitted to the fine adjustment slide. As shown, the stage 1 is carried by a body 3 moved for coarse adjustment in guides 4 by a pinion 7 engaging a rack 8. The pinion is on a shaft 20 carried by a body 9 moved for fine adjustment in guides 10 by a roller 24 engaging a cam 11 rotated from a shaft 13. The body 9 is slotted at 16, Fig. 3, and contains a spring 14 engaged by an arm 17 on the body 3, a spring 15 assisting to support the weight of the bodies 9, 3 and the stage 1. The shaft 20 carries a friction brake to support the body 3 so that the latter moves with the body 9 when it is adjusted. Specification 19161/14, [Class 97 (i)], is referred to.
