Abstract

515,650. Counterbalances. DENTAL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and LEE, W. G. June 23, 1938, No. 18671. [Class 78 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] In a bracket angularly adjustable in a vertical plane about a pivot on a fixed support and having a spring member pivoted to the fixed support and to the arm of the bracket to counterbalance a constant load, means are provided for horizontally adjusting the pivot of the spring member with respect to the pivot of the arm to suit the constants of the particular spring in use. Duplicate struts or arms 2 are pivoted at 6 to a swivel head 7 mounted on the stand 1. The member 3 containing the spring 13 is pivoted at 4 with the struts 2 to a lug 5 carrying the load and at 11 to arm 9 of a bell-crank lever pivoted at 6. The other arm 10 of the lever abuts against an adjusting screw 12. The relative position of the pivots of the struts 2 and the tie member 3 is adjusted by this screw. A nut 18 on the tie rod 17 enables an adjustment to be made for the load on the spring.
