Class 120(ii) In drawing rovings of different staple length fibres between rollers at two gripping-points, a restraining action is exerted on the fibres on a curved path, and by a relative adjustment of travelling aprons serving as guide means for the fibres passing over the said path, the length of the path, and hence the restraining action on the fibres, is varied in accordance with the staple length of the fibres being drawn, without altering the distance between the two gripping-points. As shown, an upper belt 7 passes around top roller 5 and is guided by a member 12 fixed at the ends to a weighting saddle 11 and having upstanding extensions 13. A lower belt 8 passes around bottom roller 2, a tensioning roller 19, and a pulley 18 carried by a guide cage formed by brackets 14 hooking around roller 2 at 15 and connected by a bridge piece 16. Brackets 14 rest on a vertically adjustable support 17. With the mechanism adjusted as shown, for dealing with long stapled fibres, the restraining action of the belts is at a maximum at the gripping-point where rollers 2, 5 contact, and decreases to zero where the belts part. To adjust the mechanism for dealing with short staple fibres, support 17 is raised, brackets 14 pivot about roller 2, and pulley 18 enters a curved portion at the underside of member 12. The curved path over which the belts grip the fibres in the region of member'12 is thus increased, and the effective gripping-point for the fibres is shifted forward of rollers 2. 5. The degree of displacement of support 17 can be varied according to the staple length of the fibres. Support 17 can be arranged to adjust simultaneously all the drawing heads of a machine.
