Abstract

671,911. Screw jacks. AUTO SPECIALTIES MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 14, 1950. No. 22647/50. Class 78 (iii). A screw jack is supported during use by a leg 4 which is hinged and adapted to assume the dotted position for storage. The jack comprises a channel section leg 2 which contains a screw 40 rotatable by a handle 104 to effect longitudinal movement of a load engaging nut 78. The upper end of the screw is supported by a ball race 22, welded to the channel 2, and its lower end is loosely held within the channel by a plate 68 so that the screw is in tension only. A strut 62 engages a catch on the leg 4 to lock the legs apart, this strut, together with the handle 104, being hinged and adapted for storage in the dotted line positions. Channel section feet 46, 108, extending normal to the plane of section. are secured to legs 2, 4.
