Abstract

890,651. Lifting jacks. TAYLOR, F. G. April 14, 1959 [April 14, 1958; Sept. 27, 1958], Nos. 11712/58 and 30922/58. Class 78 (3). A lever type caravan jack is provided with means for allowing it to be rapidly lowered or retracted. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the leg 32 is connected to a screwsupporting bar 10 by a pair of pivoted links 35, and is pivoted at 31 to trunnions on a sleeve 15 which is freely slidable on the screw 12 and is provided with a half-nut 23 which is urged into engagement with the screw by springs 29, 30 (Fig. 4), but which can be disengaged from the screw by sliding a member 20 outwardly in a guide 18 formed integrally with sleeve 15. Movement of member 20 is effected by a pin (not shown) thereon which engages a helical slot (not shown) in guide 18. Half-nut 23 and member 20 are connected by screw-threads 22, and the half-nut 23 has a pin 25 in engagement with a slot 26 in guide 18. In a modification (Fig. 5) the half-nut 23 is mounted on a pivoted lever 41 which is urged by a spring 46 into engagement with the screw, and which can be released therefrom by a rotary spindle 43 having a cam slot 45 cut therein.
