Abstract

640,716. Lifting-jacks. MATTHEWS, H. May 31, 1947, No. 14476. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] may be supported by a screw jack which is secured to the draw-bar 3 and has its screw 10 in tension when the trailer is supported thereby. The jack comprises a hollow leg 2 carrying a bearing plate 11 for the screw 10 and being slidably engaged by a channel 6 welded to a plate 4 to which the draw-bar 3 is secured by U bolts 4A. This plate also carries eye-plates 7 which support trunnions 8 on the nut 9. When the operating handle 10B has been rotated to lift the foot 1 off the ground, the weight of the jack is supported through a pin 13 by the screw which is then in compression. In a modification (not shown),. a second pair of trunnions and a gimbal ring provide for universal movement between the nut and plate 4.
