Abstract

786,968. Jacks. ROBERTSHAW, Ltd., M. F. Jan. 25, 1956 [Jan. 26, 1955], No. 2342/55. Class 78 (3). The nut 11 operating the jack shown bears directly on a chassis member 4 of the vehicle by which it is carried. The nut acts through a link 9 on a leg 5 which may be braced by angle members 12, 13 pivoted to brackets 14 on the vehicle. The operating screw 1 is carried by brackets 2, 3 welded to the chassis member 4. The bracket 3 includes a pressing 8a receiving the screw which is located partially by resting on the shaft 8 supporting the leg 5. The screw terminates in a head which can be turned by a wheel brace or in a pinion by which it is coupled to be driven simultaneously with other jacks on the same vehicle. The screw may be secured in the bracket 2 by a nut and cotter pin as shown or by a circlip taking into a groove in the screw, or the bracket 2 may be replaced by a pressing formed on to a reduced portion of the screw and subsequently welded to the chassis member 4. The link 9 may comprise spaced plates 20, 21 fitting over trunions 19 on the nut 11 and joined by members 22, 23 as shown or may be formed of two pieces of angle section material welded together to form a channel section. The screw 1 preferably has a rolled thread formed with an end stop and the nut 11, which may have a flat surface to bear on the chassis member 4, is preferably formed of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Mazak."
