669,773. Grinding. EVANS, J. R. May 25, 1950 [May 30, 1949], No. 14416/49. Class 60. A device for supporting cylindrical workpieces 3, Fig. 9, to be ground comprises a workholder 1 having a V-channel 2, Fig. 4, for receiving the workpiece or a mandrel therefor, a spring-pressed bar 6, mounted at right angles to the channel 2, and so as to pivot into engagement at one end 5 with the workpiece or its mandrel under the influence of a spring 13 acting at the other end, and means for rotating the workpiece or its mandrel. A hand-wheel 16 is adapted to be secured to the workpiece or, if the workpiece is hollow, to a mandrel therefor,by radiallydisposed screws 18 to provide for rotating the workpiece. The support 1 may be secured to, or form part of, the slide of a grinding-machine so as to be traversed relatively to the grinding wheel 21 which may be fed to grind to the desired diameter.
