Abstract

Gauges; trueing rotating tools.-In a grinding- machine a turning or trueing device is provided which is set so that if the feed or advance of the grinding-disc, or of the work, is greater than that required to produce a desired dimension of work, the disc is turned or trued and consequently, on the next traverse, cannot remove further material from the work. As applied. to a cylindrical grinding-machine, Figs. 3 and 5. the diamond m or other turning-tool is mounted in a holder m<1> which is secured to a cylindrical block p slidable in a bracket o secured to the work-table e. The block has an extension q slidable in a slot in the bracket, and is pressed rearwards by a spring r. The holder m<1> passes through a slot s in the work-supporting centre l and is adjusted axially by a spindle w. This spindle is screwed and is rotatable, by means of a sleeve y, in a screwed sleeve u secured to a projection t of the bracket. The sleeve y carries a ring 2 having a graduated part 4 which co-operates with a scale 5 secured to the projection t. By means of the scales the diamond, which at the zero position of the scales lies on the axis of the work, can be set to come into operation when the grinding-disc d has been fed in beyond the radius indicated by the scales. The ring 2 is adjustable, to alter the zero setting, on the sleeve y and can be locked thereon by a screw 3; this adjustment allows for the effect of grinding discs of different grain and hardness. To remove the diamond tool, the block p is pushed forwards until the extension q is clear of the bracket; the block is then rotated 180‹ and is withdrawn backwards, the extension moving along a slot 24 in the bracket. The device is shown, in Fig. 6, applied to a surface grinding- machine. The zero position of the scales corresponds to the diamond lying in the plane of the work-table 8. The diamond-holder 13 is movable in a casing 12 by a screwed spindle 15 having an adjustable graduated head 20 which co-operates with an index 22. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 168,307.
