[Class 83 (iii)] A lathe comprising a headstock 2, Fig. 1, adapted to be secured to a bench or the like, a non-rotary bed 1 of circular crosssection supported at one end in the headstock and at the other end in a bracket 3 also adapted to be secured to a bench with a tailstock 11 and tool-slide 19 mounted for independent sliding movement along the bed, the tool-slide being rotatable about the bed, has a profile bar 29 for copying or taper turning arranged alongside or within the bed and pivotally connected at one end 29a with means at the other end for holding it in adjusted position, the tool-slide (or member carried thereby) resting against the bar under pressure so that the tool-slide is rotated about the bed according to the adjustment or profile of the bar. The tool-slide is traversed by a hand-rotated screw 17 which is connected to the slide (or a member connected thereto) by an arcuate slot and nut 28, Fig. 4, to permit rotational movement of tool-slide member 26. The tool-slide proper 22 may be connected to the member 26 by a screw and hand wheel for adjusting or feeding the tool. The profile bar shown is adapted for taper turning, but may be replaced by a bar with an undulating edge for copying. The headstock spindle may be extended to carry a circular saw, a grinder, a buffing wheel or a cam for operating a jig-saw, and the tool-slide and/or the headstock may carry a work-table for use with the saw or other tool.
