Abstract

669,759. Gas turbine plant. STEINSCHLAEGER, M. June 26, 1950. [April 4, 1949] No. 9140/49. Class 110(iii). The discharge of the compressor 2 of a gas turbine plant passes through a first heat exchanger 5 and is then divided into two streams. One stream is fed to the gas producer 7, the gaseous products of which are cooled in a second heat exchanger 10 and then passed through a cooling and purifying system 11 and the second heat exchanger 10 to the combustion chamber 14 in which they are burnt in air supplied by the second stream. The combustion products from the chamber 14 are also divided into two streams. The first stream passes through third and fourth heat exchangers 16, 18, to a first turbine 20, the exhaust gases of which pass through a fifth heat exchanger 22 to a second turbine 23. The second stream is cooled in the fifth heat exchanger 22 and then passed into the first turbine 20 together with the first stream. A further stream of air from the compressor is heated in the fourth heat exchanger 18, expanded in the third turbine 29, reheated in the third heat exchanger 16 and then passed through a fourth turbine 31 before being cooled in the heat exchanger 5. Steam or carbon dioxide or both is admitted to the gas producer 7 through a conduit 8. If liquid fuels such as oils or tars or such solid fuels as pitches or powdered pitches or powdered coal are used, the gas producer may consist of a burner generating hot gases the sensible heat of which is used to crack or gasify the fuels. The coolers may be of the direct or indirect type and the precipitators may be of the electrostatic or cyclone type.
