Abstract
680,873. Gasifying finely divided carbonaceous materials ; oil-gas generation. COMPAGNIE PAN-EUROPEENNE D'INSTALLATIONS ET D'EQUIPEMENT INDUSTRIELS. Sept. 6, 1950 [June 3, 1950], No. 21992/50. Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii). Synthesis gases are obtained by gasifying finely divided oil, or coal &c. with steam and oxygen or air with or without oxygen, the gas generated being reheated with steam and a portion returned to the producer. Oil is injected through an outlet 1 into a producer 2 and gasifying agent through nozzles 3. Gases generated pass through a regenerator 7 and washer 10 in which steam is produced to a heated regenerator 5 and at 1200‹-1500‹C. return to the producer, part being discharged through a conduit 13 and regenerator 14 for use and the remainder issuing through a perforated partition 4 into the gasification zone. Supplementary oil, preferably of lighter character, may be injected through nozzles 19 ; a brick lining 20 at the outlet retains ungasified oil. At intervals the heat stored in regenerators 7, 14 is utilized by introducing air through conduits 21, 23 to burn off deposited carbon and heat up regenerator 5 to which heating oil or gas is admitted through an inlet 25 for combustion. The plant shown is duplicated to provide for gas making alternately in each of the two groups ; air for the gasifying agent may be supplied through conduit C from the air stream passing through the other group. In a modified producer, regenerators 7, 14, comprise lower and upper jackets round the gasification chamber. When ash-producing fuel is employed regenerator 7 is dispensed with, the sensible heat of the gas being used for boiler heating or coal drying &c. In a modification hydrocarbons such as methane may be transformed into a gas comprising substantially carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
