Abstract
669,513. Bed-settees. HILTON, J. June 14, 1950. No. 14833/50. Class 52 (ii). A bed-settee comprises an arrangement wherein the upholstered back and seat portions consist of a single mattress supported in longitudinally curved form by the seat frame and by a longitudinally flexible back framework and wherein the seat frame is extensible to form a support for the mattress in fully extended horizontal position for use as a bed. As shown in the settee position the mattress 11 is curved and supported by the lower extensible part 7, 8, 9 of the seat frame 18 and by the flexible back comprising laths 14 suspended from the top rail 10 by springs 13 and attached at their lower ends to rigid transverse bars 15 and to curved arms 16 pivoted at 17 to the sides of the seat frame. The arms 16 carry between them a roller 24 to facilitate the movement of the mattress 11. Fig. 7 shows the lower extensive part, comprising sections 7, 8, 9 and top platforms 7<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>1</SP>, extended to form part of the support for the mattress 11 in bed position. In this position an auxiliary bolster 20, which when reversed forms the seat cushion, is positioned in alignment with the mattress 11 by pressing back the lower part of the flexible back frame. The section 9 has an end panel 19 and a latch 21 for engagement with a cross rail 5 to retain the sections 7, 8, 9 in settee position. Specification 662,223 is referred to.
