677,907. Seats. ROMAIN, F. Aug. 23, 1949. Aug. 25, 1948] No. 21921/49. Class 52 (ii). A folding chair comprises a back frame 1 articulated to a seat frame 2 by means of a notched slot 4, provided at each side of the seat frame, engaged by the lower transverse member 3 of the back frame 1. The back and seat frames are further connected bv articulated arm rests 9, front legs 10 and stay 11. The fabric supporting surface 12 is joined to the back frame 1 by means of a transverse rod which can be slipped into slots at the top of the back frame side members, variation of the length of the fabric being obtained by removal of the transverse rod, rotating it to wind thereon, to the desired extent, the fabric and replacement of the transverse rod into the slots. The lengths of the back and seat frames may be reduced for folding by forming the ends 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> thereof as either hinged or sliding ends means being provided such as hooks 16, 17 for securing the ends rigidly to the remainder of the frames.
