Abstract

611,651. Chairs &c. HELLER, M. May 2, 1946, No. 13430. [Class 52(ii)] Chairs &c. have a supporting surface attached to at least one lever frame pivotally linked to the main frame, means being provided to form stops for limiting the free movement of the lever frame or frames, the stops being sc spaced as to ensure a wide range or adjustability of the lever frames. As shown in Fig. 3 the seating surface is secured at its ends to lever frames 2 13 pivoted to the main frame. The seating surface adjusts itself automatically as the occupant displaces his weight or otherwise applies pressure the adjustment being limited to upper stops 15, 16 on the arms 14 and by lower stops 17, 18 constituted by transverse rods. In a modification one of the lever frames may be dispensed with in which case one end of the seating surface is secured to the main frame preferably adjustably to a transverse rod by means of straps. Various forms of seating surfaces are described and as shown in Fig. 4 the surface 3 may be in two parts, a seat proper and a back interconnected by springs 20, the junction of the seat and back being if desired connected by flexible means 22 to a member of the main frame.
