Abstract

603,980. Seats. HICKS, Ltd., B., (formerly BERESFORD & HICKS (BEDDING), LTD.), and HICKS, R. B. Nov. 19, 1945, No. 31095. [Class 52(ii)] A chair comprises a fixed supporting base or frame and a chair proper consisting of a seat and back hinged at the front to the base and adjustable angularly by means of cables or other flexible members. As shown the chair proper comprises seat 3 and back 7 hinged to the fixed base 1 by means of a transverse rod 8 having at each of its ends a worm wheel 10 co-operating with a worm 11 on a shaft 12. The shaft 12 is provided with winding means comprising a cable, cord or the like 14 whereby the seat 3 and back may be brought to any desired angular inclination. A manipulating handle is provided on the end of the shaft 8. The cable &c. 14 may incorporate springs or may itself be resilient whereby the 'seat and back may be allowed to rock. In a modification the frames of the base and of the seat &c. may be of tubular metal.
