A rocking chair comprises a rigid seat and back assembly 4, 5 is pivotally mounted on a cross member 3 of a frame 1, and connected at its front end to the frame by means of a collapsible linkage 7, 8. The two links 7, 8 are pivotally connected together and have their other ends pivotally connected to holders 14, 15. Friction means in the form of cup springs is provided in at least one of said pivot connections and coil springs 16 are connected between the holders 14, 15 to tend to collapse the linkage.
