In a folding chair having a seat 3, a pair of front legs 1 pivoted at 4 to the seat and extended upwards to form a back rest 2, a pair of rear legs 6 pivoted at 8 to the seat, pivots 8 being to the rear of pivots 4, and links 9 joining the legs 1, 6, a writing tablet 10 is pivoted at 13 to the back rest and connected by a pivoted link 16 to the seat so that it folds with the chair. The chair is limited in the sitting position by abutment of the upper ends of legs 6 on the back of legs 1. As shown the tablet is disposed at one side of the chair but it may extend across the chair in which case its supporting linkage can be duplicated at the other side of the chair. In the latter case, the chair may be a nursery chair. One tablet can be mounted at each side of the chair.
