Abstract

655,660. Furniture frames. BIRD, E. March 14, 1946, No. 8032. [Class 52 (ii)] In a structure of the type wherein a sheet of material is joined to a tubular, square or other section member an edge of the sheet is turned back upon itself to form a hollow portion to receive slidably said tubular &c. member. As shown applied to a stool the front and rear edges of a sheet 5 are folded and turned back to form hollow portions 6 of tubular shape and into the said portions the ends 3 of tubular supports 1, 2 are inserted and if desired secured therein by screws 8, rivets or welding. The hollow portions 6 may be continued as flanges 7 which lie along the lower face of the sheet 5 and may be secured thereto. The lateral edges of the sheet 5 may be reinforced by bending over tubular members 9 to which they are secured by screws &c. 10. Upholstery 4, 12 may be secured to the sheet 5 by cords 11. When it is desired to include a back rest and arm rests the hollow portions 6 are of elongated sections so that the ends of the back rest and arm rest may be inserted alongside the portions 3 of the support 1,2.
