Abstract

593,340. Seats. HOMRIGHAUSEN, W. F. June 15, 1945, No. 15269. Convention date, June 26, 1944. [Class 52(ii)] A seat attachment for a crutch of the kind which has two bowed shafts and a leg extending between their lower ends comprises a clamp adapted to be attached to the crutch and having a seat and a pair of legs pivotally attached thereto, the front portion of the seat being pivotally connected to the upper end of a telescoping member the lower end of which is pivotally attached to a collar adapted to be attached to the crutch below the clamp, and the legs being connected with the seat by a pair of struts. The clamp comprises front and back plates 15, 18, with side flanges 16, 19, fastened on the bowed shafts 12, portions 22 of the flanges 16 being bent forwardly to form ears to which the seat 25 is pivotally connected by a rod 27, and legs 40 being pivotally connected to the flanges 19 by pins 41. The front edge of the seat has pivotally connected to it the inner portion of a telescoping member 28, the tube 29 of which is pivotally connected to a collar 34 fastened on the crutch by a bolt 35 or, Fig. 9, to a collar comprising a strip of metal 64 foldable about the leg 13 and having a member 62 connecting the collar with the clamp, the tube 29 being of such length that the seat when in the open position is supported by it. The legs and the seat are pivotally connected by struts 42, and the legs are connected to each other by means of extensible crossed braces having stops. Springs 37, attached to the seat and the front plate 15, serve to hold the chair in the folded or open position.
