Abstract

489,988. Folding seats. HARRIS, H. A., and BUSWELL, A. Dec. 28, 1937, No. 35922. [Class 52 (ii)] A folding seat com prises frames 1, 2 pivoted at 3, the frame 2 being extended to carry a back-rest 26, and the seat 13 being hinged to the top of the frame 1, and a tie connecting the seat and the frame 2, the tie being so constructed or mounted as to permit variation of the distance between the points at which it is connected to or engages the seat and the frame so as to permit the seat to fold upwardly as the frame is collapsed. The tie may comprise flexible members such as chains 21, or may be rigid members with pin-and-slot or sliding connection. The frames 1, 2 are preferably of U-shape, and the upper ends of the frame 1 are provided with inwardly projecting spigots 12 which are sprung into holes in brackets 14 on the seat. The chains 21 are attached to a cross-bar 9 on which the seat rests when open.
