Abstract

290,884. Holliday, E. E., and Linfield, A. S. Sept. 16, 1927. Bedsteads convertible into seats.-In a seat of the type provided with a hinged back which can be positioned in line with the seat bottom to form a bed, the back is adjustable angularly and when in a horizontal position its lower edge is located close against the rear of the seat bottom. As shown, the back 4 is hinged at 5 to a plate 7 hinged at 8 to a plate 9 secured to the frame so that when the back is lowered the plate 7 may be on the plate 9 to bring the edges of the seat bottom and back close together. The back is supported in various position by a pair of hinged T-shaped arms 10<a>, one at each side, connected by a bar 15 and each having a notched arm 10 passing through the frame upright 2 and engaging pins 11. As shown in Fig. 3 the arms 10 and bar 15 support the outer end of the back when the latter is lowered. A front extension 16 is normally accommodated below the seat on frame members 17 and it carries at its rear end cranked pins 18 which, when the extension is pulled out, engage vertical guides 19 so that the end of the extension is raised to the level of the seat bottom. The upper end of the guides 19 are curved as shown and terminate in hook portion over which the pins 18 engage to support the inner end of the extension, the front end of which is, supported by hinged legs 20 having slots 23 engaged by stay members 24.
