723,527. Spring mattresses &c. KOMMANDITBOLAGET IRVING & FRISELL. Feb. 12, 1951 [March 18, 1950], No. 3355/51. Class 52 (4). A resilient surface for mattresses or spring upholstery comprises a number of straight, spaced, parallel, continuous band-like members 1, each having curved, resilient end portions secured to opposite frame members 2 provided with supporting surfaces 3 adjacent to and spaced from the curved end portions and shaped so that on loading and depression of the straight portions the curved end portions come into contact with the supporting surfaces progressively from points adjacent the attached ends and, when the end portions are wholly in contact with the supporting surfaces serve to limit further depression of the band-like members relatively to the supports. Where iesilience is required after the leaf springs are in contact with the support, the side frame bars may be pivotally secured to end beams 4 of the frame or curved supports having spring attachments are pivotally mounted on rigid side bars, the pivotal movement in both cases being opposed by coil springs 5. In further modifications, auxiliary end springs are provided and the mattress may be foldable. The side bars may be tubes of circular cross-section or may be wooden bars with curved upper faces.
