661,731. Sewing machines. JOHNSTON, T. W. May 12, 1950 [June 29, 1949], No. 17222/ 49. Drawings to Specification. Class 112. Tufting machines. In a tufting device in or for a sewing-machine, of the type in which loops of yarn are passed through textile material to be held by a reciprocating looper and are cut by a knife blade restrained from following the reciprocating movements of the looper, the knife is mounted so as to be urged against the looper by resilient means, to take up wear. The embodiments described are modifications of the device described in Specification 615,944. In one form the plate carrying the knife blade is made slightly flexible and one or each of its securing screws has a spring washer, to take the reaction of an adjusting screw screwed into the plate and pressing on the blade. In other forms the screw is carried by a bridge piece spring-pressed towards the blade, or a spring may bear directly on the blade.
