Abstract

773,931. Sewing machines. PFAFF AKT.- GES., G. M. Aug. 15, 1955 [Sept. 11, 1954], No. 23454/55. Class 112. In a buttonhole sewing machine comprising a work-feeding lever 2 carrying a workengaging foot 8, tape 9 for reinforcing the buttonhole is carried by an arm 3 which is secured at one end, by screws 5, to lever 2 and extends beyond the sewing needle, the other end of the arm being provided with a recess 7 which surround the foot 8. Tape extends from a reel 16 through a slotted post 15 and through a slot provided in a wired leaf spring 10, the tape then passing between the front end of the latter and the arm, and the pressure of the spring against the arm being regulated by a knurled nut 14. The tape then passes through a loop 20 situated at the rear end of recess 7 and is severed in a clip 18 provided at the front end of recess 7. The tape may be sewn either to the upper or to the lower side of the material.
