808,256. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 4, 1957 [May 3, 1956], No. 11011/57. Class 112 A work-support in a blindstitch sewing machine comprises a pair of work-engaging feet 25, 26, a pair of links 28, 29 pivoted at 27 to the respective feet and at 30 to the work arm 12, a U-shaped frame 31 also pivoted at 30, springs 32 biasing frame 31 towards the work, and a two-armed lever 37 fulcrummed at 38 on frame 31 and abutting lugs 39, 40 on the respective feet 25, 26. An arm 35, projecting downwardly from frame 31 is adapted to abut a screw 36 for limiting upward movement of the frame. A two-armed leaf spring 41, secured by a screw 42 to frame 31, extends beneath the links 28, 29 to maintain the feet 25, 26 level when arm 12 is lowered. Links 28, 29 extend in the direction of action of a feeding foot 22 which co-operates with feet 25, 26 and operates through an aperture 19 in a throat plate 15, through which aperture an oscillatory ridge-former 18 also operates. The arrangement ensures uniform loading of feet 25, 26 when work of different thicknesses passes under the respective feet, and also facilitates insertion of work into the machine.
