Abstract

892,010. Sewing machines. DURKOPPWERKE A.G. Jan. 10, 1961 [Feb. 13, 1960], No. 946/61. Class 112 Apparatus for producing concealed stitching comprises a sewing machine throat plate inclined in a direction crosswise to the direction of feed, and a divided presser foot one part of which is pivotally mounted so as to overlie said throat plate and is spring-bias theretowards, said part being provided with a needle-passing aperture and being shaped on its underside as a work guide. In a zig-zag sewing machine a throat plate 33 formed with a transverse throat 35 is inclined upwardly from the feed dog 6. The presser foot 37 has a fixed sole plate 38 overlying the feed dog, and a sole plate 39 which is pivoted in a bearing block 38<SP>1</SP> by means of a horizontal pin 40. Sole plate 39 overlies throat plate 33 and is biased towards the latter by a spring 44. Downward movement of sole plate 39 is limited by a pin 45 which projects horizontally herefrom to engage sole plate 38. Sole plate 39 is formed with a needle-passing aperture 48 and on its lower side with a work-guiding groove 39<SP>1</SP>. The apparatus is used to attach a pocket strip 47 to a work piece 46. The turned-over edge 47<SP>1</SP> of the upper layer of strip 47 is guided in groove 39<SP>1</SP>, and the turned-over edge 47<SP>11</SP> of the lower layer is spaced from groove 39<SP>1</SP>. The needle 36 in its extreme transverse positions 49 and 50 passes respectively through edge 47<SP>1</SP> and the workpiece 46, and the latter alone to form a seam having a short length a of exposed thread as shown in Fig. 7.
