Class 112 A sewing machine provided with a worksupporting surface 13 formed on a post 12 comprises a work-trimming knife 20 arranged to move over said surface, a knife-driving shaft 22 journalled vertically along the post, a bracket carried by the shaft and having an upstanding arm 41, a two-armed lever 44 pivoted at 43 to arm 41, one arm 45 of lever 44 carrying the knife above the post, and the other arm 48 being biased by a spring 51 carried by the bracket into engagement with stop means 49 carried by the bracket, to locate arm 48 substantially parallel to arm 41.
